We all need a hero in our lives, or at least wished to be one at some point. That's why the world got so much caught on superheroes and just won't let go. Ever since the early 20th century up until now with the evolution of cinematography we've stuck with our favorites. They are the characters who shaped our childhoods and whose characteristics we admire well into adulthood. Pretending to shot the web just like spidey did or to imagine the buildings below as we do the famous Batman jump are the best ways for kids to have fun to this day.
There were many super heroes who haven't survived the cruel sword of time, but the world has picked its favorites. Those belonging to the two of the biggest 'universes' – Marvel and DC. The two have been rivals for as long as we can remember, with comics taking the world year in and out. Today we have a great battle going on almost every year with blockbusters shooting from both houses. And it's not only movies. There's a large market of merchandise spanning from playing cards, our beloved t-shirts, costumes and more.
While the most hardcore fans are still leaning towards reading comics, the movie industry has taken it to a whole new level introducing super heroes to a global fandom network. Burton's screening of Batman in the 90's definitely triggered the whole thing, but since the year 2000, we've seen a great boom of superhero movies and like Frankie would say - it doesn't show sign od stopin'. We can certainly expect the trend of the superhero movies to continue.
As to the leader in the movie industry so far, here's an infographic showing top 20 of them by the earnings. It also shows Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB ratings and the number of theaters featuring them, as well as the initial budget for each movie. Have fun and see how your favorite superhero ranks.
