Remember those cute little guys in yellow color wearing overalls all the time with thick glasses calling themselves Minions? Of course, everyone remembers them! These cylindrical creatures with one or two eyes are the show stealers in the Despicable Me movie franchise. Can you actually imagine any of the Despicable Me movies without the adorable minions?
In 2010, Despicable Me was the first installment of the movie franchise. With the success of the movie, the little minions in large glasses quickly grew into huge merchandise. From minion bags to toys to t-shirts, you can now have everything Minions. The year 2013 saw the return of the minions once again with the second movie installment and your long wait for another fun-filled Minions movie will be over when the Despicable Me 3 is released in June of 2017.
Funny enough the Minions believe that they exist to serve the greatest villain in the world. In the first part of the Despicable Me movies, the Minions are shown serving the great villain Gru, who is furious that some nondescript villain steals the Pyramid of Giza putting his reputation as greatest villain in danger. To prove his dominance once again, Gru along with his colleague Dr. Nefario planned to steal the moon. To achieve this feat he needs to shrink the moon for which he needs a huge amount of money. The Bank of Evil agrees to pay the money only if Gru can bring the Shrink Ray first. Gru collaborates with his minions to steal the Shrink ray from a sacred base in Asia where the Super Villain Vector resides. Gru plan to steal the shrink ray is thwarted by Victor’s booby traps. However, Gru spots three orphans Margo, Edith, and Agnes enter the base without any difficulty. He adopts them and thus begun the adventure of run and chase which ends with Gru becoming the proud parents of the three girls.
In the Despicable Me 2, Gru is now a member of anti-villain league and is part of a mission with his future wife Lucy Wilde to track down the stolen Mutagen which has the capability to transform the living things into evil.
The movie Minions was released in 2015 and is actually a spin off of the movie Despicable Me. The movie Minions throws more light on the life of minions and who they actually are. They have existed since the time immortal evolving from a single-cell organism into these pike-like yellow creatures driven by single most important purpose: to serve the history’s most despicable masters. They are notorious for accidentally killing their masters which includes Tyrannosaurus Rex, a caveman, an Egyptian pharaoh, Count Dracula, and Napoleon Bonaparte. This sad history forces them to retire into a snow cave away from civilization. But, the lack of any master to serve drives them crazy and one brave Minion, Kevin, sets out to find a new master. This is how they end up with Gru.
Who is your favorite Minion?
Everyone has their favorite Minion. Although they may all look alike some of the lovable and relatable minions are more popular and have won many hearts with their eccentricities. Let’s look at some of the popular Minions:
Carl
Carl is a Minion with two eyes and is very plum withy spiky hair. He is seen in the first Despicable Me where he is seen with Tim who challenges him to a competition. They both compete to prove who can reach the farthest distance.
Dave
Dave is another popular minion with two eyes and perfectly combed hair. He is very accident prone yet one of the more entertaining characters in the movie. He is kind, caring and is also funny. He can handle destructive weapons as expertly as he can play video games. He likes ice cream and cupcakes.
Jerry
His little spiky hair is the most distinctive part of his personality. He is very cheery and fun loving character who was given the task of looking after the three adoptive daughters of Gru. His trademark quote “WHAAAA” is quite popular.
John
This one eye minion has combed hair and famously seen in referee attire with a striped black and white cap. He once got into an unknown area. He once made Gru laugh after playing puppet imitation of his quotes, but only after John has left.
Kevin
This is another one-eyed minion with short buzz hair, but later he spots perfectly combed hair. He gets shrunk by the shrink ray and then reverts back to his original shape, which makes Dr. Nefario realize the limitation of the shrink ray.
Stuart
This is another one-eyed minion, one of the most lovable characters in the movie. He is very friendly, playful and intelligent as well. Like Dave he too likes video games and is often very sincere. One of the key features of this character is that he is often very hungry unlike the other minions and once tried to eat Bob and Kevin.
The Minions will be back in 2017 with the Despicable Me third installment with a whole new adventure and challenges. A small sneak-peak: Gru and Lucy will do whatever it takes to stop former '80s child star Balthazar Bratt from taking over the world.
